It's October. WHY is it snowing???

I spent the week in Western Montana, playing around in the rain and thunder.  I love this kind of weather.  Something about a light show and the slow rumble of mother nature.

But Wednesday, my mood sank.  My girlfriend sent me this picture, with the message "GUESS WHAT?"

Yes... not even a week into October, and the first snow of the season has come.  Last year it didn't hit until after Thanksgiving.  In fact, October 1 was my one-year anniversary in Idaho.  When we arrived last year, we were wearing shorts and t-shirts for weeks.

I check with some friends in Boise.  Rain, no snow.  I looked outside in Missoula.  Rain, no snow.  But in Eastern Idaho, the white was coming down in piles.

But that was only Wednesday.  I'm not due home until Friday.  It'll melt off by then... right?

...right?

I start my drive home Friday, and I can see snow in the distance as I approach the border.  Not a bit of snow in Montana, and weather in the mid 40's.

As I get closer to Idaho, the temperature continues to drop and drop.  The white on the trees becomes much more apparent.

Still... no snow in Montana at all.

It's almost funny, in a creepy way.

I finally see white covering trees on the road.  Snow from here on out.  Coincidentally, I see a sign:

Welcome to Idaho
Yeah, only snow in Idaho.  Karma is a bitch.

And now, 'tis the season to start looking at the weather reports.  I packed for sun this past week, and wasn't expecting cold weather.  Short sleeves and polos were not the best choice.

Oh well.  Fucking Idaho.  What'cha gonna do?

That's not good. I'm waiting for our summer to start. Keeps on teasing us with a day or two of sun then back to yuck.

Oh hell no! It is 80 here today in PA and I'm loving it. I have no problem stalling mother nature and winter as long as possible.

It snowed here as well. I spent the day curled up in the closet rocking myself and quietly sobbing.

Dude, you can have that snow. I don't want any part of it. Seeing snow here is like seeing Satan.

Wow, that's crazy. I'm in central ontario, canada right now, and it was so hot today I went for a swim in Georgian bay. The water, mind you, was insanely cold.

Fucking christ. That means it's coming towards me and that just isn't going to do. We had 80 degree weather yesterday and Friday which was amazing. And I can't lie- I am hoping for a warm Halloween? Only because it puts a damper on kid costumes when you are also wearing snow gear.

So, yeah, uh...I'll pay you if you can GUARANTEE that you'll keep the "white stuff" in Idaho and make sure it never reaches my state at all this winter. I'm with Q...seeing snow is like seeing satan!!

The secret to living in Idaho? Don't expect anything as far as weather concern. Have you heard that if you wait five minutes the weather in Idaho will change. Sometimes you can get rain, snow, wind, and sun all in the same day. We had 80 degrees on Monday last week and it snowed. We still have leaves on the trees. I remember camping one FOURTH OF JULY and waking up to snow. Don't worry it will warm up again and then it will get cold and we may not see snow again until January. Its Idaho, the weather is just one of the adventures. I should find the pictures from the other year my mom sent me of twenty foot snow drifts on the side of the road. It looked like they were driving in a tunnel. Its October, if we don't have snow on the ground by Halloween, there is generally something wrong.

Hehe you're getting it in early, on the plus side just imagine the heatwave in December :)

I do wish we could have snow, in Ireland we have but one season that lasts all year and seemingly involves a 90% chance of rain each day. I know they say be careful what you wish for but some variety would be awesome.
