I dont always know every little thing about something I am selling but I sure as heck try to find out if a customer asks. And then I also know for next time
I don't even bother asking for any help. It's just a waste of time for me, I know what I need and I'll get it myself, unless it's in the back then your underpaid ass an get it for me.

Sadly, I've become accustomed to it. In fact, I'm surprised a person making slightly above minimum wage is even awake.
As you illustrate, it's the difference between a big box and the independent. When you can see the results of the sale, it gives a person a better sense of pride and makes them feel like they made a difference, and thus, they work harder and make more because of the pride they feel.
Depressingly, these independents are harder to find.

I feel really old because I remember the days when customer service was taken seriously. Of course, nowadays about 90% of customer service is overseas on telephones that one has to be routed around for 45 minutes to speak to someone who has to reroute you.
I have no patience for some snotty nosed kid who doesn't know a hill-of-beans about what they are selling!
I'm used to crappy service. Especially from kids, the ones today know nothing and have never learned to work. Man, I sound old.
I am dealing with crappy customer service at the moment grrrrrr. Made all the harder because this is a web based business!!!
