Sunday Sillyness: FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

So my laptop is dead.  DEAD.   It won't start up.  The fans come on, and the initial 'click' of the drives happen, but the BIOS or starting screen won't pop up.  I've troubleshooted online, and it says it could be a memory issue, motherboard or CPU.  I'm worried it could be one of those, plus a nasty virus.  I reformatted my comp about a month ago, and my antivirus software has miraculously found nothing since then.  No spyware, no viruses.  Awfully fishy.

So I'm dead in the water right now.  I'm borrowing my gf's laptop to post this, since we have 2 machines in the house.  @#$%^&^$#@@#$%^&

Anyway, here are two vids that cheered me up a little, and I hope they will bring a smile to your face too.  Two ridiculous videos from two awesome bands.  Enjoy!

Please Share it! :)

How old is the laptop? It might have just conked out because the parts are old and worn down.

Unknown said...

It's about 4ish years old. So it needs replacing, but I have kept it up nicely. I think it may just be past its prime, and in need of the Old Yeller treatment.

Ah dude. The computer I normally use has died on me, so I have to use my 7 year old laptop which has to run ubuntu because nothing else will even start up...
Also that muse song is awesome. :)

Something like this happened to my mom's dinosaur laptop recently. We finally figured out that some file got corrupted and it won't boot up. I guess you could try booting from a disk if you can somehow get into the BIOS.

Unknown said...

Can't even get into the BIOS. I have the boot disks, but can't get it to load at all.

If ANYONE has some experience with this and has succeeded, please let me know.

my mom gave me a super old(mid 90's) laptop that she wanted me to fix. eventually i got it going, the problem was a loose CPU board, simple enough to fix.

Eric P said...

That's awful when something like that happens. Especially when there's little you can do to troubleshoot. Surely somebody's got experience with that situation and can help you...

I saw Muse at their home coming gig - they're out of this world!
Good luck with the laptop

Yeah, Knights of cydonia is sick.

As for your laptop problem, are you sure you didn't drop it, even from couch height? Because that could easily disconnect something, or knock something lose, so it wouldn't be a software problem, but a hardware problem.

If you know anyone that knows computers I'd ask them about it. I'd even open it up in case it's something incredibly obvious that just needs to get clicked on.

Unknown said...

Opened up the case, double checked all the connections, and blew all of the dust out. I just think I need a pro to run a diagnostic, like a car mechanic, and tell me what's up.

I hate it when that happens. At least you can still get on to the web.

I would say take it to a best buy, but when my lappy pulled that crap, it took them over 2 months to fix it. Bright side is, they ended up letting me trade it for a new one! I hope you can figure out the problem!
