Meet Miles

This was kind of an impulse thing on my part...

I wake up Wednesday morning, and go to work as usual.  Around 8:30 I get a text from my girlfriend:

"OMG cute puppies at the animal shelter!"

We have talked about getting a dog in the past, but never too seriously.   Today, for some reason, I'm more into it.

I tell her to go look.  She has 2 or 3 she was interested in.  I get texts and pictures while she's there, and I agree to meet her at the shelter on my lunchbreak.

I go there, and see the 3 she liked.

One of them had BAD separation anxiety, and I could just see our couch shredded into bits.

The other two were more or less a pair.  They seemed so inseparable, and I didn't want two.  If we only took one, they would both be heartbroken.  Which is a shame, because they were Australian shepherds, and one was GORGEOUS.

I'm shooting down her attempts one by one, when I see Niles.  Niles is a Border Collie, 6 months old.  Already neutered, microchipped, and housebroken.  He calls us over using Jedi-dog mind tricks, and we talk about him for a while.

And, as you can guess...

I can has bed?
...he came home with us.

Niles is now Miles.  He is attached to his old name, but I wasn't.  I picked 'Miles' because it was close enough for him, and I'm a Miles Davis fan.  All in all, a good name for a dog.

Now, miles is a Border Collie, and those are some hyper sum'bitches.

I forgot about that part...

BUNNY!!!! Bunnybunnybunnybunnybunny...
The good news is we have a nice-sized back yard, and plenty of room to run around.

And this means, I'll be building a dog house this weekend.

As for my Weeble?  She's under the bed, cowering.  She'll get used to him, just like we got used to her.

And now, a word from our sponsors...

I spent 8 years in the pet food industry before moving to Idaho, and I will be feeding Miles Canidae dog food.

Why?  Because it's a damn good food, highly nutritious, and it costs less to feed than Pedigree or most of the other foods you will find at Petco, Petsmart, Walmart or Target.

Best of all, Canidae doesn't have the crap you find in other cheap-o foods.  No meat by-products, no corn, no soy, no bad stuff.  It's a super-premium food, and a really good price.

The only problem is there is one place in 40 miles that sells Canidae, whereas I had hundreds to choose from in Southern California.  Sucks, and they're pricey, but it's still the best thing I could feed without spending about $200/mo on feeding him.

So there you go.  If you have a dog, and you're feeding Pedigree, Pro Plan, Iams, or anything else, give Canidae a look.  You won't be disappointed.

Yes, I sold it for 8 years.  But I believe in it too.  Consider this as my "brought to you by Seagrams Gin, because I drink it, and they're payin me for it" speech, even though Canidae isn't payin me for it.

But dudes.  If you're listening, call me.
Please Share it! :)

Miles is so cute! I can't wait to see pictures of him trying to herd your cat around the house. He may also get bored and try to herd you guys, they can't help it.

Miles is a great looking dog. I don't know as much about dogs as I do about cats but I've heard Border Collies are hyper as heck. But they make great companions and pets. I had never heard of Candidae. Does that company sell cat food?

D4 said...

Aww Miles! Love the name :) And there's no Canidae here, :/ I'd look into it, you really know how to sell it, but I haven't seen that anywhere.

As somebody knowledgeable about pet foods, do you have any recommendations for a good cat food? And, is there a type that can affect overeating/vomiting?

I have two cats that I can't really feed separately, so I have to leave enough out for both of them...but the younger one tries to hog as much as he can and throws up just about every other day.

Grats on the dog by the way. He looks like he'll make a great pet.

Awwww check out that sweet puppie!!!!! I hope he knows how to get all up in that ass if someone tries to get in your house ;) I love me a killer!

@nick: There are bowls that help prevent gulping, which is the number one reason why cats puke. They gulp, or eat too much too fast. Smaller portions help, as well as digestive aides like cat grass or probiotics.

@kelly: Their cat food is called Felidae and it rocks. More info on the website link in my post.

Great i'd love to have a god myself but its not possible in my current apartment. ;_;

And cats are pure carnivores. They can't process grains like we can. I'd recommend a grain-free cat food, like felidae's PURE line, or Taste of the Wild cat food. (www.tasteofthewildpetfood.com)

The change to a grain free food will improve their overall digestion, and help keep them trim.

He is so cute! My husband has banned me from the shelters...he is afraid I will bring home another dog and there will be no more room left in our bed for him:)

Lucky Miles! That's my favorite breed. They are as spastic as me, but they're also bright and athletic. You never get bored throwing shit for them to go fetch. Great choice!

Miles is adorable!

Also, if you tire of Canidae (I used it for awhile with our dogs), try Fromm. They have great food...all natural, family owned...

He's a pretty cute puppy, man! I never heard of this breed being particularly hyper, but I know dogs about as well as I know sports teams. It's amazing what a cooing woman can talk us into huh?

Cute post! Seems like everyone I know is getting a dog now, the whole canine thing must be catching on.
But I'll have to check out Felidae. I have my cat on diet catfood now, not sure he likes it...

I give you one week before you are posting a picture of Miles in YOUR bed with a caption that reads, "I has NU bed!" Congrats to you and your GF! Dogs rule. Cats drool. Except for my cat...she's a dog trapped in a cat's body, which makes her ROCK!
