I'm Done With Shuttles

I spent the majority of last week in Washington, and then the weekend in California.  I flew everywhere, which means shuttles and taxis to and from the airport.

Most of them were ho-hum, if not a little bumpy.  However, when I rolled into California on a late Thursday night, I was in for an experience.

I needed to ride the shuttle bus to the rental car building, and I was one of 100 people doing the same.  Groups packed into the bus like sardines, and when bus #3 came around, I finally squeezed into mine.

Driver looks to be about 60.  Says "HOLD ON TIGHT, CUZ HERE WE GO!" and then it turns into a Harry Potter scene.

...just with more people, and we're all tired and cranky.

Needless to say, after that little experience I was glad to get out of a shuttle and into a rental vehicle.  I was also glad to have survived, because it meant a long (and fun) weekend with my boys!

Glad you had a good time! Washington and Cali are two of my favorite states.

Also, after my last few shuttle experiences I made an effort to drive some friends to the airport so they'd owe me a ride in return haha.

Amsterdam airport, Schiphol.

I've just gotten off a 9 hour flight with my kid and husband. We get on the shuttle. So does another 3 person family: mom, dad, teenager.

Doors close. Shuttle begins to move.

Teenager hurls everywhere. I have to throw my shoes away afterwards.

Thanks for the memory jog!

I made a shuttle pull over once in Los Angeles. Thank goodness for bushes in the middle of nowhere. I hurled in the bushes while everybody on the shuttle sat there watching me eating popcorn like I was the star in a movie. I'm just thankful the didn't leave me there.

Oh, sweet memories...

Yeah, I had to do that in L.A. and it was baaad.

Hubs has to do it all the time with his rental cars for work.

Just pay for the taxi. So worth it.

You can always find some interesting people on public transportation, even in shuttles.

The Atlantic City Jitney is probably the best place for people-watching.

I know I'm probably going to sound like a weirdo, but public transportation (specifically buses and trains) give me the heebie jeebies! ESPECIALLY if you're crammed in like sardines. I hope you don't have to deal with that again any time soon.

The car rental shuttle ride is always the worst! It's just a toss up on whether the worse one will be the one after your flight when you just want to get to your car/hotel and relax or the one that you have to worry if it will get you to the terminal in time to get through security to pack on to a plane for your next flight. I love to go places, but I hate to travel...quite the problem!
