Red Hot Chili Peppers on a Classic Rock Station? Say It Ain't So...

When on the road, I love to listen to the local radio stations.

(Except Country.  I can't stand Country.  Sorry.)

One staple you can find in every corner of America is a good Classic Rock station.  Timeless classics, great to sing along to, and perfect for the road.

Styx

Journey

Genesis

Queen

Red Hot Chili Peppers

Steely Da---

WAIT, WHAT?!?

Remember these?  They're called CD's.
Yes, you heard right.  I just finished singing along to the We Will Rock You / We Are The Champions smashup, when I start singing to the next tune...

"Sometimes I feel like I don't have a partner..."

I get about 2 minutes in, when it hits me. (I DON'T WANNA FEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEL...  LIKE I DID THAT DAY....)  I'm listening to a Classic Rock station, and a song from my generation is playing.

This means I am now officially old.

1991 doesn't seem like so long ago, but a child born on-or-before this date in '91 can legally drink alcohol.

21 years...  I feel old now.

I should probably check for gray pubic hairs...

But, the more I think about it, the more it makes sense.  Back in the 90's guitarist Flea looked like this:

Now, in 2012, he looks more like this:

...I guess I should be glad.  Classic Rock is better than the oldies station.  Can you imagine the day you hear "BOOM, SHAKE SHAKE SHAKE THE ROOM!" or the Humpty Dance on an oldies station???
Please Share it! :)

I felt the same way when I heard a "the LA riots - 20 years later" news feature.

I so understand that feeling...we have multiple radio stations in the Detroit area that are offending me by calling the songs they play classics. There is "The D - Classics for the cassette generation" . They play the hair bands. Totally heartwarming. The alternative station only plays "Classic Alternative" on Sunday mornings from 8am to noon. Good for cleaning the house. And then there is "Oldies 104.3" which has always been an oldies station. I am happy to report that they have not yet left the 80s, but THEY ARE NOW PLAYING MUSIC FROM THE 80s! I remember listening to Duran Duran back in the day and thinking it would never get played on an oldies station. Wrong, wrong, wrong.

I feel the same way about songs I still think of as "recent" being played on these stations.

Please let us know how that pubic hair search goes.

HOLY FUCK FLEA! Good Lord, I guess it's true what they say about hard living! And now that I got that out of the way, I had a similar experience the other day when driving, but I honestly can't remember which song it was. I guess that's the dementia starting already...

I'm bracing myself for when I hear Wu-Tang on an oldies station.

Styxx, Journey, Genesis, etc. all will be classics when we are dead and gone. Thanks for making me feel so old now, lol.

I was deeply amused with this post... until you called Flea a guitarist. I think a little piece of me just died.

Bass guitar is still a guitar.

I used to play bass in a band and still called myself a guitarist, not a bassist...

I know, darling.
It was a sad day when I heard Pearl Jam on the local Classic Rock station.

Sad.

I get disturbed when I walk into an antique store and see toys I used to (and still do) play with. Why don't they just wring me out and hang me up to dry already.

CRACK YOU: Uh I have done the same thing or better yet, toy manufacturers actually recycle the stuff too as NEW TOYS, duh.

Well, I'm older than you, so I experienced this a long time ago when I heard that "Walk This Way" by Run DMC & Aerosmith celebrated 20 years... in 2006! I was 14 when that song came out! Geesh!
