End of the Week, End of the Move

Today is official moving day.  Everything is packed, movers are coming, and boxes will migrate.

Wednesday, we were given a chance to tour our new 'temporary building.'  As we entered, our tour guide said "Welcome to 1967."  How right he was.

First off, on some of the main doors, there are some fancy woodcarvings.  I'm not sure what the building was used for before, but it looks like the last owners loved to decorate.

There are different 'coat of arms' designs on a handful of doors.  It reminded me of a Knights Templar building, or an old Masonic Center.

The building has two floors:  The main floor and the basement.  There is office space in both, and I was fortunate enough not to get placed in the dungeon.  Downstairs was just plain weird.

First off, it has a sauna down there.

First thought was "BADASS!  We can have department meetings down here!"  Then I remembered that I'm the youngest of all my coworkers by a good 25 years.  Maybe...not.

Secondly, there is a 'pinhead room' downstairs.

I'm not sure why someone designed the room like this, but they did.  Yes, it goes to a point.  The corner is about 8 inches wide, and the entire room is like that.  Starts out wide, but slowly closes in to the point.  Maybe that can be the disciplinary room?  "Bob!  Go stand in the corner!"

Upstairs is better, but not by much.  Again, this building was made in the 60's.  Yellow stained glass is everywhere.

The main conference room looks like UFO's are about to land on the meeting table.

And the heating/air conditioning vents look like they were slapped on not too long ago.

Does anyone else see the face on the wall?  The eyebrows?  The eyes?  I laughed a little when I saw this room, but noone else seemed to see what I saw.

So today is moving day.  Possibly tomorrow, if we don't finish.  Our new home for the next 4 months.  Get out the lava lamps and the LSD, it's going to be a trip.
Please Share it! :)

Well the workplace seems funky fresh. Ish. Lol it's funny, I see the face too.

I think that building looks pretty cool! :) I love most things from the 60's though. I see the face too!
As for the triangle room. When I was in highschool, the principals HATED the fine arts department. So our thespian troupe was stuck meeting in the storage room which was exactly like that triangle room only filled with supplies and the walls were made of brick. It was really squishy during meeting times.

Holy heck! I'm laughing so hard, I can't type. That was fucking hilarious! Yes, I love the ship's bow room. A couple can spoon in there really nicely. I think I'd keep it dimly lit and tell the interns to take these papers down the hall there--and point at it and listen to the "thud!" I love the creepy masonic feeling carvings and the 60s fixtures. It's like Greg's bachelor pad in the attic on the Brady Bunch. Let me know if it's haunted. It should be!

I would love to own doors like that for my new home I moved into over the weekend.

Those door carvings are kinda cool, but I have no idea what business would use that as decoration. Maybe it used to be some sort of cult's church?

Judging by the UFO light things, I'd say Scientology.

watch out for secret rooms and underground tunnels. Crazy Templars.

this looks a LOT like a church, dude... maybe it was? you should look into the history of it. Maybe some sort of irish catholic church, based on the woodcarving, but i'm probably wrong :P

I actually like it! The coat of arms on the doors! God what I'd give to have those in my place.. Enjoy it, it looks pretty wild and has some character.. This is a place your moving your office too or where you'll be living?

Why did that wall with the eyebrows give me the creeps? I think it's because it reminded me of that movie The Haunting where the walls would make faces and shit...very creepy! lol

this really looks classical but also very beautiful. Lold @ the "goes to a point room" :D

looks like a masonic hall... wonder what kind of things went on there....mmmmm

@G: If it IS a Masonic Hall, I could answer that question. I'm a mason. The answer would be not much. Masonry is kind of dull.

@The Wired: It's my new office. Moved in today, and I'm pooped. The elevator broke after only 45 minutes of being there, which meant all the strong men (*cough*) had to take the computers, printers, file cabinets, etc downstairs. I definitely don't need to go to the gym tonight.

@Autumn: Meet you in the snuggle room in 45 minutes? =P

@Choirchick: Yeah, our drama club area was like that too. But it worked for us. Theatre was for heavy petting and casual 'fun' so tight spaces didn't bother anyone.

That house would make me trip, literally. Whenever I stay at old hotels, still decorated like it was the 60's or 70's, I'd get really dizzy the whole time I was there.

Hey, maybe you'll find some old LSD hiddne under a tile...

Thanks for stopping by and reading about my bro. :) That place looks awesome except what's with the triangle room?

Unknown said...

@Caity: Welcome aboard. My office just moved locations, and it's a strange office. It's a hexagonal building, and the triangle room is a result of people not knowing how to divide up space within a 6 sided building. Most rooms look normal, but this is the borked room.

HR has turned it into the "Time Out" room. The 'go stand in the corner' idea was awesome and they ran with it! (That, and noone wanted to have that space as their office...)

The woodworks on the doors are cool. The yellow glass... not so much. But still that doesn't look too bad.
