Why?
We're moving!
Apparently I'm coming at a fun time for the company. They are 'in between' buildings right now, like I was in between jobs. They have a brand new building being custom made for them, which will be ready in June. The problem is, in order to pay for the construction, they had to sell their old building to pay for the new.
Shooting yourself in the foot much, eh?
They sold the building late last year, and struck up a lease agreement with the new owners. "We can't move out yet, even though the building is yours." At the time, I guess the new owners were ok with it...
Not anymore.
In January, they said "we are switching you to a month to month lease." The company gulped. A few days afterward, they said "ok, now we're switching things again. You need to be out in 30 days."
That 30 days ends this week.
So we are packing our things in a rush, only to be moved into a temporary location for the next 4ish months. About 2/3 is going into boxes and will stay there until June, while the other 1/3 is travelling with us.
The funnest part? I don't think we quite know where we are going yet... They have a few buildings picked out, but I don't think any lease paperwork was signed....
I don't remember "packing and heavy lifting" in my job description. Or organizing storage spaces. Trying to learn a new position, while packing away your training material, makes for a fun week.
Wish me luck!

Well at least your new job is already keeping things exciting!
Oh no, what a kerfuffle! Best of luck with it all.
Good luck with the move pimp! I hope they at least pay you a little something-something on the side for helping out. They might pull a shit move and say their way of showing you their appreciation for the move is you still having your job... either way, MAKE THAT MONEY!
Sucks man. If you stay though you'll look good to all the other employees!
Your life is a series of moving disruptions, eh? Well, it makes it interesting. Probably won't be falling asleep on the job for several more months. There'll be time to sleep in the new permanent building this summer.
Oh god how I hate moving anything!
Oh man, best of luck to you with that. Sounds like you got lots of work ahead of you.
Good Luck, moves are always tough for businesses!
Well at least they are keeping you on instead of downsizing and dropping a bunch of employees.
LOL wow dude what a mess. Professional establishment you're employed by there ;).
Ha. Sounds like a real cluster. My company has talked about moving more and more in the past year and I dread the day that it actually happens because I know I'll be in charge of getting the moving organized. I don't want to do that. Best of luck man.
Good luck! Things will even out soon enough.
hopefully you ended up somewhere nice. enjoy this adventure is never bad to add a bit of mystery to ones life!
Wow, that doesn't sound very fun. At least you're getting paid for it, though. I can't say I've ever had to help a company I've worked for move - that would be an interesting thing to do, though.
Sounds like a company totally on top of their game. But hopefully things get settled out once the new building is available.
Good luck! Things can only get better, right? :)
good luck hun with the packing and moving
Kinda sucks that you have to help carrying stuff. I guess you don't have much choice, you don't wanna leave behind an bad impression as freshling?
good luck!
wow - really in at the deep end...good luck
oh that blows... I hope the moving end soon
wow thats crazy. didnt think they could do that.
It's been crazy, but I'm liking it so far. It's a nonprofit, so money is tight. They need to find a place within their budget, willing to do a short term lease, and that can fit all of us. I feel their pain.
But yeah, never a dull moment at this place!!!
Forgive my lol, but... lol! But for serious, hope you can get through that! Sounds tough...
I hope you turn out alright!
And you don't even know where are you going? what the hell?
Good to know you didn't complain at all, I hated when people in my job didn't want to do simple tasks because "that wasn't their job".
Wow at least you don't have dull days at work!
Moving'll be lush, a nice fresh start... Ah!
Good luck with the move, sounds like your place of work screwed itself by not making it a firm lease when selling the place
That must be pretty hectic but hey right now you're a pretty well paid mover :P
