Still a long-ass time from Christmas, right?
Well, not in Idaho. We have not one but TWO local radio channels playing Christmas music now, non-stop.
Which is interesting, because I always thought the rule was to wait until the day after Thanksgiving before dusting off "The Chipmunks Christmas Special" or one of the many holiday-themed movies.
But not in Idaho. When it starts to snow, the bells start to jingle.
Which honestly, I don't mind. I love Christmas, I just think it's a bit too soon. I also like Thanksgiving, and I don't want to put the cart before the horse. I'd like to get my stuffing on before I start thinking about candy canes and chopping down another fucking tree. (click on the link if you want to see why I have nightmares about Christmas trees)
Oh well, this just means more time on my iPod, and staying away from Target and Walmart. Just, one request, if I may, to the radio stations in town? If you're going to play cheezy Christmas songs, give these two a look-see...
19 witty retorts:
YES!! STUFFING FIRST!
Ahem.
You are not alone! My mother's rule was always on Thanksgiving as soon as the parade was over...however, Detroit radio does the same as Idaho it seems...there has been one station playing it non stop since BEFORE HALLOWEEN and the other one started the Friday following trick or treating. WTF? They say stores love it..I say wait a couple of weeks. People aren't going to spend any more money because they hear Bing Crosby a couple weeks earlier...or are most people such sheep that they will?
Definitely not alone. In fact, I don't know a single person that isn't at least a little annoyed by how early Christmas stuff is forced on us. What really pisses me off though is when stores start pushing the present buying on us before Halloween is even over! Seriously?
Go GO Capitalist greed. Squeezing every last penny out of every last minute they can.
Idaho is big on excessive laws. Maybe you should petition that no Christmas music until after Thanksgiving be one of them!!
Is it okay if I start decorating for Kwanzaa? And if I hear "Grandma got runover by a reindeer" one more time, I will likely snap and run over every grandma I see in my '86 Buick LeSabre. I give the detail so you'll know it was me in the news reports.
Watch it. If they use that song, they might change it to, "fuck you if you don't like Christmas early in Idaho."
I can't take it.. so early I'd go insane
Glad to see the Fuck You song again. There is one station here that has switched to all Christmas music already and I know another one will be switching soon.
Saturday it was in the upper 60's which is insanely warm for MN this time of year - that's cool with me. Winter sucks.

5th Ave already has the giant snowflake strung above the street. Saks has blacked out their windows in preparation for the displays. The M&M store has a tree up. The mickey street character was dressed in his santa outfit last week. And of course the tree in Rockafeller center is up and in the process of being trimmed.
Am. Not. Ready!!!
I always look forward to the big three: Halloween, Thanksgiving, & CHRISTMAS! LOVE the holidays. For me, it's officially the Christmas season when Santa waves at the end of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade (tradition with my papaw).
Still, I love the holiday movies and Christmas music stations--I've found one and have tuned my radios in. Christmas music just makes you feel light and happy, you know?
DOMINICK THE DONKEY!!!! LOL That one always makes me laugh! :) Thanks for that. :)
I can't believe the stations are doing this. At first, it was 97 hours of straight Christmas music. Then it was from Thanksgiving to Christmas. Right now I don't feel like Christmas thank you very much and I like the holiday. I just have too much to do before then. I refuse to do Christmas before Thanksgiving.
We've had one store playing Christmas Greats since September...I mean really??? I know times are tough but it makes me just want to stubbornly hold on until Christmas Eve before I do my shopping
This woman cannot take the merriment of Irving Berlin then Wham! holiday cheer and/or breakup on Christmas tunes any time before December 10th.
the abundance of jingle bell sounds on tv commercials already has me wanting to spike the eggnog...which I do actually do although I don't drink eggnog. I just like to cause trouble. Christmas is awesome, just not until after Thanksgiving, I'm with you on that!
I don't want to hear Feliz Navidad again. They play that on a loop around here and Mississippi only has like six Hispanic people in it.
I loathe being in the stores at this time of the year...but I'm scarred from having worked in the mall many moons ago...and those christmas tunes would just play over and over and over, and I think they were laced with subliminal messages telling you that your life sucked and you were being punished for being a bad, bad person - bc I swear, that muzak left me feeling stabby!
haha, it's so true, I almost forgot the other day that we haven't even had Thanksgiving yet. It's so crazy they're already playing xmas songs. Love the songs, and thankfully I listen to Howard Stern on the radio, so no holiday songs .yet!
P.S. Your spanx comment on my post made me laugh

Ah yea, the joys of 'Boxing Day Eve'. I noted seasonal gift wrap on display at half price in August, over here, in lil' ol England :)
Tis the season to be jolly, eh..
I was at Walgreens on Sunday they had Christmas music playing I totally wanted to punch myself in the face. Last year like October or earlier a totally pissed off a couple old ladies as I was at Kohls and they already had Christmas trees, ornaments out etc. so me being me I started swearing up a storm man did I get dirty looks lol I was so proud of myself.
