Normally You Don't Reward Bad Behavior...

I won my very first blogging award!

I was hoping for the 'best in bed'
award, but this will do for now.

This is the Psycho Carnival Award for Originality.  It originated at The Psycho Carnival blog (a blog you have to see to believe), and was awarded to me by Rantings of the Reckmonster.  Miss Reckmonster's blog is some funny funny stuff, so for her to recognize ME as a 'heavy hitter' is an honor, award or not.

Now, most of you know, with bloggie awards comes rules:

1 - Post the award.   (tadaa!!!!)
2 - Cut a Hole in the Box... oh wait, no...  Bestow the award onto some bloggers you deem worthy, and let the bitches know.  This will be done right after I finish the rules.
3 - #3 doesn't seem to exist.  Or maybe the Reckmonster skipped #3.  So I'm going to make up a #3 here.  Go streaking!  WoooO!!!
4 - Tell an original thought/story, or post an original photo for people to gawk at. (coming in a few seconds)
5 - Shout out the person who gave you this award.  Um, did that.  A few times.  :D

Ok, now to puff puff pass...

I would like to award this to:

- Shutterbug, over at Thingamajig.  Sure there are photo sites galore, but this chick turned it into a damn fun game.  Every day she posts an extreme closeup of an object, and the little lemmings that follow her try to guess what it is.  She posts every day, and has a wide range of photos.  It's original, it's entertaining, and it's great photography!  Go check it out!

- Autumnforest at Ghost Hunting Theories.  I watch Ghost Hunters.  I watch Destination Truth.  I watch all the other wannabes that make it a season or two before dying out.  If AF had a show, she'd be my favorite.  She's original, quirky, and when you watch her "Ghost Hunts" you'll laugh your ass off (if you haven't clicked that link yet, what's wrong with you!?)

- Con Queso at Con Queso's Cross-Stitch and Game Blog.  He cross-stitches Kirby and Yoshi onto fabric. Enough said.  If that isn't original, I don't know what is!  Oh yeah, and his blog is 7 kinds of awesome.

Now for some originality on my part.  Most people don't know this about me, but I was/am a professional level flutist.  I played up until my 3rd year of college, when I "fell in love" and dropped out. (heh, and that worked out SO WELL for me...)

Sadly yes.  That's me circa 1995.

My passion was to be a music teacher.  I did band in High School.  Yes I was a band nerd.  Yes I did marching band.  Yes I was in band camp.  Now the fun part.  YES I can relate to the famous American Pie reference.  I dated a girl who wanted to see if my flute could be used in other ways, so we tried it.  That was in 1998.  AP wasn't released until 1999.  Was I a trend-setter?  Maybe.

In college, I got good.  Damn good.  I was a substitute for the local Orchestra, and was dabbling in Jazz Flute.  I went to San Luis Obispo for a chance to play with a group of elite musicians, where I met a dude who could beatbox while playing.  Now he's famous and I don't play anymore.  I still want to learn how he does it, but could never get the hang of it.

Jazz Flute, anyone?
When I moved to Idaho, I had to sell my instruments so we had enough to move up here.  We were broke as a joke.  But the passion still stirs within me.  Once I get more settled, I plan on buying a flute again, and shaking all the rust off.  I'd rather be playing in the local Orchestra than what I'm doing now, so I'm gonna try and make it a goal of mine.

There you go.  If an Idahoan jazz flutist that stuck his 'instrument' up a girl's hoo-ha isn't original, I don't know what is.

Before I go, I need to announce the winner of the Viral Video Faceoff that godaddy fucked up.

The winner is:  Trogdor with 6 votes to Jenn's 5!  Wow, it was closer than I thought...

Please Share it! :)

Woo Hoo! Congrats on the award homie! And by the way, every time I see a flute I think of the chick from American Pie... AUTOMATICALLY! LOL

Thanks so much buddy! I am quite honored because you are a complex and interesting guy so if you think I'm al-right, then I'm doing well. That's funny about the band nerd. I was too. I was a short flag, sabre, rifle twirler. We called them "Wallies" and I have no idea what the origins of that name are. I have to say, flutist--ew la la. As a female, I appreciate the skills that must take! Music is awesome and it's always there, even when love is gone. Keep up the music in your life--it is your life, a constant that will never leave you, hurt your feelings, or ruin our life. Pretty cool, huh? We all need music. Spread the love of music.

I'm sorry to ask, but when you played the jazz flute, were you rockin a Ron Burgundy mustache?

You stay classy, Lost in Idaho.

Awesome dude, I was first chair clarinet all through middle school. I got out of Band because of the engineering magnet at my high school, but if finding a career in music were easier I'd totally be doing that. I just play piano now. :D

lololol congrats on the award haha

After reading your story about the flute, you convinced from making a big mistake. I've been playing violin for three years, and although everyone around me praised me to be a prodigy, I guess 3 years wasn't enough to get to the professional level, seeing as how I got rejected from all the conservatories I applied to. I AM, however, going to the University of Minnesota to study with an up and coming violinist, so hopefully it all works out there. After getting my rejection letters last month, I was contemplating on whether I should give up music or not. I absolutely love it, but I had the feeling I was incompetent and if it was meant to be, I would've caught up by now or I would've started playing earlier. Thankfully, through some divine providence, I was transferred to your blog and I promise myself I will keep up with my music.

@Leila: You just made my day. I'm glad I could help inspire you to keep up with your passion.

My transition from HS to college is where I got to a pro level. Want to know what I finally did? Practice. And practice right. I let my natural talent skate me through HS, but I actually gave a damn in college. Lessons, master classes, and practice practice practice makes all the difference.

Music is still a deep down passion of mine. I used to compose, as well as arrange and perform. I want to get back into this. Badly.

Congratulations on your award as well as to the fortunate recipients. Love that you are (were?) a flutist, you don't see a lot of guys that play flute, or maybe I just haven't been paying proper attention.

Either way, enjoying your blog. So glad I found you.

haha yes, my violin teacher, a Julliard Graduate keeps telling me: 3 hours on scales, arpeggios, thirds, octaves, sixths; 2 hours on etude/caprice; 2 hours on showpiece; 2 hours on concerto; 1 hour on sonata. At first it discouraged me but practicing like that everyday turned out to be fun. Really, you did me the honor of writing that post. I should be thanking you.

And it's funny you left me that quote on my blog. I remember reading a poem, I forgot by who, where he described life as a cyclical journey, he basically lives life, travelling and exploring the world, only to find himself where he first began. In the end, after his long journey, he realizes the fragility of his existence and sees the world anew in its unfathomable splendor. Very beautiful.

Thank you for the compliment on my poem. Yes I know Jeff Bridges is ridiculous! But the movie was great, and it was his ridiculous face which made me cry at the end of the film.

Congrats on the award, dude!! I was planning on giving you the award, myself, next time, but somebody beat me to it. And to think... This is your first award. Hey, thanks for the shout out. I'm glad I thought of an award on originality. You certainly are the epitome of that, my friend.

Number 3 1/3 was a question, actually. Pygmies or ketchup? You had to choose between the two and give a reason why.

I didn't know you stuck a flute up a girl's hoo-hoo. So did you stick it back in your mouth and play a tune of victory, afterwards?
