But Baby It's Cold Outside

Ok, so maybe cold is an understatement...

Today in Idaho it's -16 degrees (that's almost -27 in Celcius) and it's been like this for the better part of a week.

Yesterday it stayed in the negatives all day.  We had a 'high' of -2...

That's just plain wrong on so many levels...

...especially for a guy like me who travels for a living.

Schools are shut down today due to extreme temperatures.  Roads are closed or being plowed heavily to let commuters through.

Some people can't get into their own cars because the doors and locks have frozen shut...

There's a vehicle under there somewhere... I promise.

But the show goes on, even in conditions like this.  I'm working on a trip into Utah or Wyoming, where I am hoping the frigidness is slightly less frigid...

But I'm not getting my hopes up.

(Meanwhile in California, I have friends posting "oh no, it's 44!  SO COLD!" on Facebook.)

How is the weather where you're at?  Do you live in a climate that goes below zero and camps out for a few weeks?  How do you manage?

Meanwhile, in parts of Australia, it's getting close to hitting 120 degrees, and fires are burning out of control...  Maybe the mayans were correct and this is the end of the world?  Maybe it's not instantaneous, and will take a few months to spiral into madness?

Oh well.  Hi ho, hi ho, it's off to work I go...

  1. Make your way north a couple hours to Coeur d'Alene. I've been walking my kids to school in single digit temperatures.

  2. going to be 42deg C here tomorrow (108F??) so pretty warm. Happily, the house, car and work are all air con and the pool is looking like the place to be tomorrow evening.
They are still battling with fires in some parts of the country which is really horrible

It's been raining so much our bayous and rivers are overflowing. Today it was 38 and tomorrow high is somewhere's in the 40's..so I'm cold! Stay safe on the roads

  5. Having grown up in California I used to think anything below 50F was REALLY cold. Now I live in Oklahoma where the first winter we had back to back ice storms and several of those days where the high was -2. The first time that happened I thought, "maybe I can get a flight out." Not a flight for the whole family... just me. This morning it was a balmy 22. I still think it's pretty damn cold out there, but I have zero sympathy for those in warmer climates whining about a high of 44.

  6. Canadian here, -27 C isn't even that bad. We get down to about -40C and it stays there for a couple weeks. Nothing shuts down. School stays in. It's just the way it is. I should mention it is currently +4C here though, just to rub some salt in that wound.
