Playboy Has Mastered The Art of Buying Low-Stock Celebrities

For decades, Playboy Magazine has done a great job of finding celebrities in risk of fading into obscurity, and has scooped them up for a deal.

LaToya Jackson

Shannon Doherty

Tara Reid

Lisa Rinna

Lindsey Lohan

For some of these celebrities, it has helped boost them back into the limelight, if only in a minor way.  For others it's a last-ditch effort to remain relevant, and it fails miserably.

Or, if you're Vanna White, it will help launch you into TV-Land mega-fame.

Now added to the list, Jenny McCarthy.

Jenny has graced the pages of Playboy before, but this time is extra special.  This is after her split with Jim Carrey, her psychotic rant about Autistic parenting, and something about buying her kid a gigantic deer head.

I'm sure after that PR nightmare, Playboy got her on the cheap.

And, of course, I had to buy the magazine.

Wait, there are ARTICLES too??
When did this happen??
You see, Jenny holds a special place in my heart (as bat-shit crazy as she is).  Her 1993 Playboy was the first magazine I stole from my dad, and Jenny helped me through a lot of stressful times when I was a child.

(I say child because I was 12 in '93.)

Granted, Jenny doesn't look as young and perky as she did 19 years ago (she's 40 now), but she's still the same smokin' hot Jenny.  Opening up the pages to this magazine was like being reunited with an old friend.  An old friend with an amazing rack.

With that said, as much as I like admiring her body (and waxing nostalgic) she as a person is less than great.

But that's what Playboy specializes in.  Kim Kardashian posed right after her sextape dropped and was trying to look 'classy' instead of trashy.  TV stars, movie stars, singers and athletes all turn to Playboy when they need something to distract them from their personal problems.

Or when they just need the money.  (*cough* LiLo *cough*)

With that said, look at the other celebrities in the news that are slowly fading out of the limelight.  Miley Cyrus in Playboy seems like a 'when' and not an 'if.'  Britney Spears is long overdue.  Mariah Carey isn't as popular as she used to be, and this could help make her relevant again.  It's not that I want to see them naked per se, (hahaha) but it seems like a logical (if not predictable) step in their spiraling careers.

What do you think?  Is this a way of grasping for attention as it fades away?  Do they do it because they need the cash?  Once an attention whore, always an attention whore?  And most importantly, who do you think is next on the 'C-list' parade?

  1. Charlie Sheen is also in that issue of Playboy. It seems like their interviews aren't as cutting edge as they used to be. As a subscriber For many years I still enjoy finding the latest issue in the mailbox each month. I probably still have the original Jenny McCarthy issue in my archives in my garage.

  2. Playboy might make them a quick buck...but it's not going to revive a career. If anything, it will further damage their reputation with all the gossip and tabloids exploiting their ill decision to pose naked for the world to see. Sluts!

  3. As much as they try to convince us it's a way to "celebrate their bodies", it's a cash grab. There's so much airbrushing it might as well be a moose in lingerie. But now Playboy, with the state of the publishing industry, is as desperate as the fading starlets looking to avoid obscurity.

  4. Let's just hope Joan and Melissa Rivers never need to give their careers a boost.

  5. Now that you mention it, Oprah's TV channel isn't doing all that well...

  6. "It's not that I want to see them naked per se"... Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuure, heehee.

How about this. Being naked isn't so taboo to some people as it is to others. Sexually is soooooooo fucking repressed in this country. We're taught that we're supposed to be ashamed of our bodies, ashamed to let other people see our bodies, ashamed to be comfortable in our bodies... and fortunately some people don't fall victim to this cultural mentality.

Yes, it's a way to get some easy money for some, yeah for some it's a good way to get a little more easy publicity... but for others it's just another form of entertainment and income, because being a celebrity is about getting paid to entertain. How they entertain is up to them.

  7. Now Dan...if it weren't for those sluts how would the young boys get through those stressful adolescent years? Better to pose for playboy than Hustler.

As for the next in the parade, where has Paris Hilton been? Could you imagine that scandle?

  8. it's totally a "once an attention whore always an attention whore" situation if you ask me.

  9. Ha! Id have to say yes on parts of this, it seems to be a def attention thing for a lot of them. Maybe they are just trying to secure their spot in the mansion? I don't know. It seems to be either a last reach for stardom or maybe they're just trying to get it out there before it's too late. HA! I don't think I can picture Maria Carrey in there, the others well I just don't want to see them! Have an awesome weekend!! :)

  10. I have a friend who ran into a few A-stars who were without makeup and nonairbrushed. He said they looked like totally different people in a totally bad way.

    Jenny creeps me out.

  11. I would love to see Britney in Playboy. You see, I have always been a sucker for a good train wreck. Whatever the hell is underneath those clothes she wear can't be pretty.

  14. It is "Shannen" Doherty, not "Shannon" Doherty.

I know this because I Googled her playboy pics after reading this post, and Google told me so.

  15. Jenny McCarthy has always been a good part of that mag, but my favorite was always Carmen Electra. She's about due again for a spread, no? And I agree with Spears. Shocked she hasn't done it yet.
