Aside from tribute videos for Whitney Houston, Etta James, Don Cornelius and the like, this year's show just didn't seem to appealing to me.
Yes, Adele's return to the stage was tonight. Yes, Whitney died yesterday and it would have been kind of fun to watch the writers scramble in making a proper tribute, but twitter....
...well, tweets are much more interesting.
Especially when you consider the wide amount of opinions I'd be getting from people who like/dislike country, hip hop, etc.
Here are a few of the highlights from my Grammy timeline:
Adele
Yes, Adele is amazing. Nothing too exciting here... |
Nicki Minaj
Nicki Minaj overdoing it? People acting shocked... Have none of you seen The Creep? |
Chris Brown (seriously, why is he still in the spotlight??)
Big surprise, Chris Brown is still trying to be forced into stardom again, and we're still not buying it. |
Deadmau5 (or "Dead Mouse" to all you not in the know)
Q likes Deadmau5, and the rest of you have no love for electronica or dubstep. |
My two favorite comments of the night were:
and
So I DVR'd it, just in case. Those of you that tuned in, is it worth sitting through the BS and watching the show? Let me know... and let me know what your favorite parts were. I'm sure I missed a few key tweets...
I always do this. Watching a show has so much more pizzaz with twitter. Especially wrestling. I'm a huge wrestling fan and when my twit timeline is full of fandom, a little part of me feels happy.
ReplyDeleteMy timeline was nearly dead at the grammy awards though. It sounded like a boring show. Plus I don't know who half these people are.
Ah HAH! You got to make up for missing out on the Twitter commentary during the Super Bowl! =D
ReplyDeleteI actually missed the twit feed during the Grammys due to playing a Braavosi knife game with my mother. In other news, it's a real bitch to type with only three fingers.
Yeah I think twitter is the best thing about these shows.
ReplyDeleteI had way more fun watching while tweeting, it totally made a mediocre show much more entertaining. I find this to be the case with most shows/events now, the tweet commentary enhances the experience in my opinion. It's like watching with my clever, quick witted friends only I don't have to make snacks or clean my house first.
ReplyDeleteHeh, I did this with the Junos last year (That's the Canadian Grammy's). It's a lot of fun. I don't remember much except that everybody was gushing about how good Jim Cuddy looked, that it got my expectations way up and I was a little disappointed when I saw pictures. I guess I was expecting radiance.
ReplyDeleteI can't handle the Grammy's anymore.. there's rarely anyone on there that I give two shits about. And I probably would have thrown up if I had to sit through the Whitney Houston tribute. But that's just me. And Chris Brown? Fuck that guy.
I have a confession, I didnt even watch the grammys. lol.
ReplyDeleteI can't bring myself to watch the Grammys or even tweet about them, because they're a joke. Chris Brown, best R&B album? Skrillex for best dance/electronic? Kill me.
ReplyDeleteNo, wait, I take that back. Chris Brown might read this and actually do it.
I skipped the ceremony and watched cartoons. Is that good or bad?
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly what I did, but I popped in to check twitter from time to time. I never once actually changed the channel over.
ReplyDeleteHehehe. Yes, I LOVED that NPH said that. Awesome.
ReplyDeleteI gotta say I am super pissed that for some reason people have the attention span of a gnat and had Chris Brown on. Why were they all applauding him? Have they all forgotten he beat the ever-lovin' hell out of Rhianna- even if she's a tard and is "secretely" banging him again- it's shameful the Grammy's are giving him a pass like it never happened.
ReplyDeleteI didn't watch either. I figured you would have a great timeline of the event and just read that. haha I was right!
ReplyDeleteRemember JJ, Riri found love in a hopeless place, and they don't get any more hopeless than Chris Brown!
ReplyDeleteOh snap!
I'm just surprised he beat out the other nominations for that Grammy. Oh wait, I'm not surprised at all that he's beating other people!
Burrrrrnnn!!!
I'll be here all week, folks.
Nothing that happens on the Grammy's can outdo NPH's comment. It's just not possible.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen an award show that was actually worth watching.
Random Girl is right, he show was average at best. Twitter made it much better.
ReplyDeleteTwitter makes everything better... I think I'm going to start live tweeting sex.
SD
the live performances were pretty good. except for that nicki minaj one, wtf did i watch ther.
ReplyDeleteI didn't watch - but the few Tweets I received about it were entertaining.
ReplyDeleteEspecially the one by a lady who was watching and polishing her nails bright yellow at the same time. She shared a pic afterwards - definitely the highlight of the evening.
Haha, viewing the Grammys through twitter is so much better. I think I will keep my phone handy during the academy awards to read the chatter on how people are feeling about the performances.
ReplyDeleteNot big on tweeting, myself.
ReplyDeleteI never watch award shows, but logging on to Twitter clues me in to the gist of things. I last about two minutes there last night before I remembered that I don't care about anything celebrity awards related and went back to watching hockey.
ReplyDeleteMost of the people I follow were just moaning about Skrillex...
ReplyDeleteWhat!!!? The Grammy's were on? Damn, I missed it! I can't wait until next year when I can miss it again!
ReplyDeleteI should totally start doing this with shows like these! I mean, I don't even have a TV anyway, so I wouldn't be missing out at all.
ReplyDeleteHmmm. Good point. It's kinda like how I love to read Daydream Believer's blog retake of The Bachelor even more than I love watching the show. Seriously!
ReplyDeleteOh, BTW you co-starred in last week's Wordy Wednesday: Peehicular Manslaughter.
Wait, people actually watch stuff other than Twitter?
ReplyDeleteHahahahahaha! Good one, Lost! You nearly had me going there!!
I've just seen the highlights...but next year I might give this a go
ReplyDeleteActually, I'd like to watch that Katy Perry bit. And then jump Mrs. Penwasser when she comes back from shopping.
ReplyDeleteDude, I was digging, Deadmau5. I'm going to peep them on iTunes. It was weird and different. As for Nicki, that was just creepy. I know a lot of Catholic people are upset over it.
ReplyDeletehahah, this is hilarious and of course I watched the show but I was on twitter the whole time and I realized if I'm gonna do that I can't have it DVR'd because everyone tweeting ruins it. haha, It was fun reading through these especially the ones about DeadMouse :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing, I'm sure the Oscars will be just as intense on twitter next month
~Dale
Aww that's my tweet! haha Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI knew who the mouse heads were for having never heard them. Mouse heads.. Deadmau5.. I can put 2 and 2 together. The ehads were kind of.. different, but the music wasn't too bad.
The whole priest thing with Nicki... It was all over the place. It wasn't good. She seemed to just be going for pure shock value.
i am glad we are on the same page...i just didn't have my computer on.
ReplyDeleteAdele was amazing.
ReplyDeleteThat's HOW you know talent.
No gimmicks, no S & M costumes, no latex and whips...
Just a piano and a voice and WOW.
She is something...
