And WOW, what a trip thusfar.
This will make post 391, and I still can't believe I've pumped out so many words in such a tight timeframe. I've blogged almost daily for an entire year.
Some fun stats for MOPI during it's first 12 months:
- 776 followers to date (soooo close to 777, but oh well)
- As of 9:45am on 1/21/12, my blog has been viewed over 300,000 times
- 391 posts, with over 8,600 comments.
- 4 layout redesigns
- 3 guest posts by 2 guest bloggers (and I'm always looking for more)
And about 200,000 words written. Funny, even though I've written almost 400 posts, my second post ever of chopping down my first Christmas tree is still my favorite. I wonder how I'm going to top it? Maybe I should go hunting...
Thank you all for your comments, your support, and following my fucked up world. I'm slowly adjusting to the Idaho scene, but will always see myself as an outsider.
I refuse to listen to country music. I refuse to drink the Mormon koolaid. I refuse to become a meth user or start my own potato farm. I still say 'dude.' I will always, in essence, be a Californian living in Idaho.
Which is why this blog will go on. I'm living in My Own Private Idaho and am willing to take you along for the ride, if you're willing to put up with my nonsense.
Cheers. Here's to another fun year, hundreds of new and entertaining stories, and continued growth. I'm working on a fun post for Monday, to start year #2 off right. See you then!
Congratulations! It's been enjoyable, to say the least, following your adventures and seeing this anthropological experiment through your eyes. Well done and happy...uh...there's gotta be a better word than "blogiversary", doesn't there? "Anniversalog"? "Blogthday"? "Tantric word-gasm"?
ReplyDeleteYay Happy happy Blogthday (Yeah I like that one Pickleope) to you!
ReplyDeleteI'd bake you a cake but the mailman would probably eat it before it got to you.
Share your secret. How are you able to churn out something everyday? How did you get so many followers?
ReplyDelete@OoB: Honestly, I just live my life and things naturally happen. I work in sales and travel a lot, which gives me a chance to observe a lot of weird shit.
ReplyDeleteAnd if you've even been to Eastern Idaho, you know there's a lot of kooky stuff out here. People, places, etc.
What's funny is I keep telling myself I need a digital recorder to keep track of ideas as they come to me. If I remembered 1/3 of the stuff I thought of and forgot, I'd have another 100 posts written already...
As far as followers go, I follow a lot of blogs (I think 328 was my last count?) I comment, I interact, and it gets people coming my way. That, combined with sheer luck, netted me a good following.
congrats man, you've been busy at this thing.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the year - you've done a great job growing your readership as well as continuing to pump out solid content.
ReplyDeleteWhat I can't believe is that you've posted 391 times - how do you find the time! I only have 297 posts and I've been at this crazy shit for 17 months.

Happy Blogoversary... well done, that is a lot of work, and a lot of fun posts!
ReplyDeleteI am also a Californian transplant to the Midwest. But compared to where I am, your own private Idaho seems so much less midwest. Maybe I'm wrong I'll have to keep reading and see ;)
ReplyDeleteBut I'm definitely not going to start using meth or support my habit with corn fields either. There's no Mormon koolaid but there's an Evangelical side here that's much worse.
Nice one and many congrats on your blog becoming one year old on Monday.
ReplyDeleteAnd well done on having so many 'followers' in such a short time.
My blog will be five years old in February and my shy, humble and unassuming blog has way less 'followers' than yours. Then again, unlike yours, mine is not worth reading or commenting on.
And do not get me started on Country music. Always the same theme in them there songs, 'My wife has left me, the dog has died and the pick-up truck wont start. Gosh and golly.
Seriously well done and I'm delighted to see you doing so well in blogland :) May your second year see you continue to embrace all the positive aspects of the great blogging community.
With respect, shy, humble, unassuming Gary :)
Your blog rocks because the host rocks. Congrats!
ReplyDeleteCongrats! Some very well deserved milestones. You've been working hard.
ReplyDeleteCongrats. (I still say "whoa.")
ReplyDeleteYou've only been here for a year? I swear I've known you longer than that, like... at LEAST 15 months....
ReplyDelete@Jillsmo: It just seems like forever because I'm one of 'those' guys. You spend 15 minutes with me and it's like an eternity...
ReplyDeleteYes, exactly that. Ahem.
DeleteCONGRATS DARLIN!
Wow, one year...congrats. Thanks for all the fun posts. I enjoy reading them with my morning cup of coffee.
ReplyDeleteHappy (pre)blogiversary!
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how much you can accomplish in such a seemingly short period of time. here's to another year of hilarious commentary on the Idahoan way of life! :)
Hopefully you'll be able to settle in a little and find your place in the American 'wilderness.'
I know what you mean about feeling like an outsider. When we moved to Red Lake it felt like we were moving not only to a new frontier, but off the face of the Earth (there are several letters I have written [ironically] as if this were a Mars expedition), but eventually it starts to feel like 'home' (well, more a sense of familiarity, but that's not so bad either).
Congratulations. Its a huge deal!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the year! I hope to get my blog up to half of what yours is!
ReplyDeleteHappy Blogiversary!
ReplyDeleteAww yeah dude it's been great watching it all. Can't believe it's a year for you already! Way! Congrats :D
ReplyDeleteCongratulations. almost a blog post a day for a year and over 300k hits are pretty amazing accomplishments imo
ReplyDeleteWow! I'm fairly new at this - hoping I can say all this in a years time!
ReplyDeleteIt's fair to say that your number of followers etc. is well deserved - your blog isn't one of those that you just skim through, your posts are actually enjoyable reads!
Congrats! :)

ReplyDeleteWell either blogger ate my comment or you don't love me any more and we know that isn't possible :)
ReplyDeleteA great big congratulations on your amazing awesome success and all in only one year.
Wishing you all the best for your anniversary and hoping you continue to entertain us for a long long time into the future.
Ps, perhaps one day I will sweet talk you into letting me come play here as a guest
Congrats on your year of blogging. It certainly has been quite a ride with ya! I have to say I have my favorites too and Mormon's are usually at the butt of the jokes. The angry bird and the build a mormon bear were some of my favorite...then again I like them all!
ReplyDeleteHere is to another great year for your blogging...which sometimes means a crappy one in real life but hey since I benefit from it...sorry...you're gonna have to suffer a bit.
Brandini. Onward through the fog!
