Idaho Men + Jailbait = Summon the Pedobear

I was at a local gym when I first noticed this problem.

It again popped up at a popular fast food chain...

Summer is here, so people are wearing less.  As I posted before when I talked about local men going bonkers for a bikini bar, the men in the town seem to be extra-sexually-charged.

And age isn't an issue.

Before I go any further, have you been properly introduced to Pedobear?  He's a popular/unpopular internet meme (depending on how you view him) that represents a pedophile bear.  He likes em young, and is always on the hunt for the next loli.

The reason pedobear is being featured on today's post is because I see pb flashing in men's eyes whenever a hot little 14-year-old is walking around in short shorts and a bikini top.

At the gym, there was a line of guys on the exercise bikes (including myself).  Two girls walk in, looking like sisters.  Big sis was maybe 19 or 20.  She was dressed to work out (yoga pants, loose shirt, headband, etc.).  Little sis was probably 13 or 14, and was dressed to get the boys attention (short terry-cloth shorts, tight skin-flaunting shirt, and makeup).  Big sis and lil sis both hit the treadmills, which are right in front of the exercise bikes.  Big sis started jogging and listening to music.  Lil sis bent over to tie her shoes.

The dudes on the bikes were in love.  Over half were staring, some were probably drooling.  And she knew EXACTLY what she was doing.

Later on, she started flirting with one of the guys while big sis kept jogging away.  When big sis finally noticed, she yelled at lil sis ("You're 13, dammit!") and at the guy ("You sick perv... I should have you arrested.")

Lil sis was furious.  She knew what she was doing, and thought it was ok...

And maybe 30 years ago it would have been ok (Idaho's age of consent used to be 14.  It's 16 now...)

The funny thing is that I thought big sis was cuter.  Guys didn't care, because they went for the one showing off her goods...

At the fast food restaurant, same basic story.  Group of girls, probably ranging from 12 to 15.  Short shorts, tight shirts (one in just a bikini top) and flirty as possible.  They sat at the table behind me, so I got to listen in on their whispers.

One ordered a frozen yogurt dessert and said to her friends "See that guy over there?  I'm about to make out with this McFlurry... let's see if I can drive him wild."  I went to refill my drink (and take a peek) and there she was, molesting that poor dessert.  She had some mad skillz for a teenager... like it wasn't her first rodeo.

To no surprise, the guy she targeted was staring.  He was probably in his late 20's, maybe early 30's.  And he was asking for trouble... I didn't stick around long enough to see if he tried anything, but I'm willing to bet he came over and asked for her number (and a whole lot more).

Why don't you take a seat...
With every yin there's a yang.  Pedobear's yang (and arch nemesis) is To Catch A Predator's very own Chris Hansen.  He would have a field day in this town, because of all the men looking for tail, and not caring whether or not said tail is old enough...

But then again, who's ultimately to blame here?  The dirty men who are attracted to these teens, or the teens who are sexing themselves up and are oh-so-willing participants to this game?

We're not talking about children being held captive here.  We're not talking about any "Slut-Walk" ish behavior or rape. We're talking about teens deliberately acting like sexual objects and the men who like it.

My thoughts are mixed.  Part of me thinks if they're old enough to dress in a sexual manner and make sexual advances, they shouldn't be surprised when men see them as sexual objects.

Some girls are ok with this.  Here are some statistics on teen sex:

  • In 2009, 46% of high school students had sexual intercourse and 13.8% had four or more sex partners during their life.  Prior to the sexual activity, 21.6% drank alcohol or used drugs.  Only 38.9% used a condom. CDC
  • In 2009, 34% of currently sexually active high school students did not use a condom during their last sexual intercourse. CDC
  • Each year, approximately 19 million new STD infections occur, and almost half of them are among youth ages 15-24. CDC
Kids are having sex.  And not just with each other.  A lot of girls think they're "more mature" than boys their age, so they look for older men.

And older men like young girls.  Pick a porn site and look at their categories.  I bet there's a 'teen' section, and it's probably one of the more popular categories.  There are porn stars (over 18) who try to look as young as possible to cater to these demographics.  Pigtails, braces, bubblegum, innocence, etc.

I'm sure this can be taken to a broader scale than just Idaho, but it seems like Idaho men are more prone to any sexual advance they get, regardless of age.

So NBC:  To Catch a Predator, Idaho edition... what do you think?

More importantly, what do YOU think on this issue?  Is age just a number, or do the laws exist for a reason? Feel free to leave a comment (anonymously, if you like...)

  1. I think that picture says it all. I mean it's not right but the kids parents shouldn't let their children get all dolled up if they're not at the age on consent. Or at least not in the way that you're describing some girls to do.

  2. I agree with the comment above, what kind of mother would allow her to wear that?

  3. Age will never be an issue for some people though, which shows the state of the world today

  4. Terrible piece of clothing, what sort of parents has she? Interesting and disturbing post.

  5. This post is excellent. Men who flock after "little girls" need serious help. And the parents of these "little girls" need help in how to discipline said girls when they dress the way they do. It's a 50/50 I say. When a man has children older than the girl he's trying to nail, that is just plain sick. Those guys on To Catch a Predator are seriously sick. It makes my stomach turn. I worry about my granddaughters who are now 8 and 9. What will it be for them in just a couple more years? The man though should know better as he's been around the block a time or two. These girls think they are mature but they are just little girls with budding bodies who are lacking in love and self respect. I could go on and on but let's just say it's a sick world out there.

  6. It just disqusting. I mean, girls are told from a young age we mature faster then boys do ( which is true in some senses, puberty and what-not) but they take it as they are grown, when they are not.

Grown men who are trying to get some 14 year old tail need to get some serious rehab or something, its not like you don't know what these girls are doing...there has got to be more grown women around to take your sexual frustrations out on then these teenage girls.

And if your a parent and actually let your child walk out of the house with that kind of attire...your just hoping to become a young grandparent to many children.

  7. I think the age of consent in Japan is twelve. We could totally learn from them.

  8. Hey, is that actor from Lost who married the 16 yr. old from Idaho? Every teen thinks they are "mature for their age" but teenagers are painfully stupid, that's why Twilight is popular. They lack the life experience necessary to make informed decisions (like whether or not to appear on a show hosted by Dr. Drew). So the blame always falls on the adult perv.

  9. Seriously, I hope I never have a daughter. Or you know what? Any children for that matter.

  10. I remember when I was 13. I was doing the same thing, but only for the teen boys. The older guys were "icky ew." It creeped me out when older guys noticed me. I know I liked to practice my skills. Really, at that age, your worth is in who you can attract. Women know that all their lives because men are visual creatures. That's why Botox and lipo is a middle-aged woman's best friend. Even as we age, we still know that it comes down to our looks. It's just the same for men in that their worth is tied into who they can conquer. It's an age-old ritual that ain't going anywhere, but I know when I was 13, it never occurred to me that older men thought of me "that" way.

  11. I was wondering around the mall here a couple days ago and noticed something. The younger the girl the more provocative she dressed. It is like a standard now. If she looks like a whore she is probably under age. The ones that are of age don't want the creepy sexual advances of older men, that the prosti-tots thrive off of.

  12. The way the system works, it's not possible to pinpoint the correct culprit, male or female. I find it to be a mental thing, mental age works fine? Then cool. Guy is using to his advantage his knowledge against a poor young girl? Not cool at all. But this is something that using written down laws is next to impossible to correctly monitor.

I'm not sure how much sense I'm making. Maybe I'm too tired to think of the right words.

  14. It's all so complicated.

All the hormones in the meats and milks are making 12yr olds LOOK like 16yr olds. Add to that the strides that media, internet, "teen programming" and such are taking in what is considered entertainment. Society is pushing pushing pushing these kids to be more sexualy aware and explicit.
At the same time age and aging is some sort of thing to avoid at all costs. (by the same media messages)

MEN who are attracted to GIRLS are fucking gross. PERIOD.

Girls who are pushing these button are playing with fire. The mental maturity isnt there but the bodies and hormones are there. Parents are letting them down by not guiding them through it, at the same time we didn't go through it at this young of an age so it's hard to identify. It's hard to believe your 12yr old daughter is thinking of giving a BJ to her boyfriend just to keep him, but that's like in America these days, and I'm sad for it.

Bottom line? If you as a parent are letting your kids walk around looking like whores, be prepared for all the fallout that can entail.

  15. I thought this was going to jokey and you ended up making me think. Damn it.

It's weird because I think we are too prudish and too sexualized at the same time. The sexualization of kids and young women is sort of a gross, exaggerated characterization of what is sexy. But any type of real sex portrayed in movies, straight talk about contraceptives, etc... is cause for general freaking out.

ugh, i'm getting all overthinky. i'll go now.

  16. My mother would have locked me in my room and thrown away the key if I had THOUGHT of dressing or acting in such a manner. Kids today think they are ready for everything, but they don't know shit. They should act their age and BE kids. Not sex objects.

  17. As a sexual abuse survivor I have so many thoughts on this that are without a doubt going to require I make my own post.. sighs which I will of course link to your post lol..

  18. If we stop and look at how Madison Avenue advertises EVERYTHING we see on TV, magazines, or (by product placement) in the movies, sex is the most common denominator of the marketing tools. They use it to sell everything from chewing gum to soft drinks to beer to cars... and the models they use aren't "real" women with curves and a little seniority, they're always these waifs with the big soulful eyes, not an ounce of body fat on their little frames.
So generation after generation of little girls train themselves to be waif thin, to be seductive as possible, and anyone who doesn't fit the magazine idol mold is an outcast, or worse, developes eating disorders and all kinds of neuroses.
When my daughter was twelve she looked twenty, at least in the face and hair. I spent a LOT of my time in public letting assholes know her age, and wouldn't think of letting her out in public wearing what kids wear today.

  21. That shirt is disgusting! In fact the whole subject makes me kind of sick, but it has to be dealt with.

The media and retailers have a lot to be responsible for. The media glorifies women's sexuality and some retailers even sell bra's for like 8 year olds, it's not right. Even those tops with the diamonte jewels spelling out 'cheeky' and 'sexy' are marketed to children.

    ReplyDelete
  22. It's a scary world I'm raising a daughter in.

If I ran into the mother who let her daughter out of the house in that shirt I'd not be responsible for my actions.

    That is sick.

"Slut walk" bullshit notwithstanding, the simple fact is that if you dress suggestively, you look like you're making suggestions. Whether we like it or not doesn't change the fact that it's so. So why anyone would allow their daughter to dress like a street walker is beyond me.

That isn't to say that abuse is ever "asked for" or whatever, but we can also be smart about how we present ourselves and how we allow our daughters to present themselves.

  23. Ugh. I've worked with that age group for a long time, and it breaks my heart. Seriously, girls? Have some self respect. You're wonderful kids, and you don't need to be any older than you are. And shame on those men.

Also, may I stand up for the mothers? I know there are mothers who don't do enough, but being the older sister of some truly rambunctious brats in their day... but sometimes everything you do is not enough, and kids will do what they want, regardless of everything.

So, to those desperately caring moms, be the best example you can be of self-respect and modesty, and pray lots. You've got the hardest job in the world and thank you for taking it on. :)

  24. fact 1
there is no animal in the world where the male is not sexually attracted to a female of reproducing age. it is natural for guys to find 14 year old girls attractive.

    fact 2
guys have free will and self control.

    fact 3
it is a bit of a grey area about the age when consenting protected sex is not 'taking advantage'. japan is 13, spain is 12, highest i believe is 17 in northern ireland.

    fact 4
a case-by-case judgement would be needed for fairness, but the law has to be applied as a blanket. should a 16yo guy who has sex with his 15yo girlfriend be tarred with the same brush as a 30yo guy who picks up a 15yo girl?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Wow, why is she wearing that shirt, what would her mother say?

    ReplyDelete
  26. First of all, no fucking way would I allow my daughter to dress in a way I thought portrayed her in an unfavorable light. So low cut shirts and short shorts with "juicy" written across her ass? Absolutely not. My mom would have kicked my ass. Second of all, no teenage girl is mentally mature enough to be having sex (nor are the boys) period, but you can't stop them. As a parent all you can do is educate them, get yoru girl on birth control whether she's having sex or not and hope for the best.

    ReplyDelete
  27. It's everyones fault involved in my opinion. Parents for allowing their kids to dress *ahem** like sluts, the teen girls for trying to grow up way too quick, and the pervs who aren't keeping their eyes and dicks to themselves.

Don't get me wrong I tried to get out of the house dressed slutty but I had my parents to tell me I can't walk out of the house like that.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I blame them both. Young girls are trouble these days.... and sometimes its hard to tell their true age. That's why I go for the elderly ladies. I cant ever get in trouble checkin out a hottie 80 year old in short shorts.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Now thats just bad parenting right there. lol.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I. Love. These comments.

And I do think everyone is to blame in some extent.

I'm the same age (roughly) as Britney Spears. I remember the day she turned 18 ("Legal" was the term everyone used). Radio stations rejoiced. Parades were thrown. Men could finally look at her like a sex object without a tinge of guilt.

    Same with Miley Cyrus.

18 is the 'golden' age, but 17yr 364days is illegal and immoral. So why is 18 ok but not 17? 16? Why is one sick and one ok, when 14yo's look like they're 20?

It's a slippery slope. Me? I'm attracted to women +/- 5ish years of my age. I'm with a 25yo, and I'm 30. If she were 20, it'd be odd. 18, worse... but that's just me.

  33. It is a world wide problem - as a new teacher in a school where their are uniforms I'm amazed at how short the skirts become.

Then, in summer, it is really scary. And most people laugh at it and say they're kids. Grr - I can't write what I really want to say because I'm so angry...

  35. I'm 16, and it'S just plain GROSS when older guys (late 20's and up) check you out, whistle, honk or slow down in their car. And I would like to point out that most of the time I'm wearing jeans and a t-shirt. But, I have friends who wear very reveiling clothes and they like that attention. It's really 50/50, I think.

    ReplyDelete
  36. This entire thing is disgusting. I hit puberty WAY early and was hit on constantly by adult men before I was even IN my teens. I was always creeped out and never really felt safe because of men like the ones you are describing.

But, all of your commenters keep asking what parents would let their kids dress that way, and the answer is NONE. (Or no decent parents.) The problem is that teenage girls are sneaky, and they will leave the house wearing something conservative and change into something slutty when out of their parent's sight. Until the girls get caught, the parents are totally clueless.

I think in the end, it all comes down to parents (and maybe even schools) teaching girls to respect their bodies and their minds, and helping them develop a true feeling of self worth. If girls can be taught to see themselves as something much more than sex objects, then perhaps the entire dressing-as-whores fad could fade.

  38. Yes, definitely parents aren't doing their jobs ... It's kinda sad in my opinion.
