A romantic rendevous turns into a fight with the bed

I recently joined Studio 30 Plus and am attempting my first writing prompt.  This week's theme is Hotel Stories, and it was just too juicy to pass up.  This has nothing to do with Idaho, so take it as you like.

My girlfriend and I were just starting the 'hot and heavy' phase of our relationship (we were friends long before) and I booked a romantic weekend getaway in Salt Lake City.

Ok, stop laughing.  Romantic and SLC don't exactly mesh, but I was living in Cali and she lived in Idaho.  It was a middle ground.  Easy flight for me, easy drive for her.

I booked the nicest suite at a good hotel, and were happy to finally get into our room (and back into each others, er, arms).

I'll be honest, it took us a while before we actually found the bed.  When we finally did, we noticed something unique.  It was a Sleep Number Bed!  Neither one of us had ever been on one before, so it felt like a fun new toy for us.

I never slept in a bed that came with an instruction manual.  After reading the basics, we picked our sides, and started playing with the firmness/softness.  We wanted to see what numbers we were, and if we were compatible in that way too.

"WRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR"

Holy crap, this was a loud bed...

And it didn't really seem to work all too well.  I couldn't feel too much of a difference between a 90 and a 15.  Maybe it was just old and worn out?  I dunno.

We finally gave up on playing with the bed, and enjoyed a nice 3-day weekend together.  We left the hotel room maybe 2 times in total (a good weekend indeed...).  By the last night, we were both exhausted and content.  She was sound asleep, and I was drifting off when I heard a familiar sound...

"WRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR"

This wasn't coming from our bed....

"WRRRRRRRRRRRRRR"

This was on the other side of the wall...

"WRRRRRRRRRRRRRR"

Those damn beds are so loud we could hear our neighbor playing with their bed.  Luckily that was all you were able to hear.

When I look back at the beginning of our relationship, I always look at our Salt Lake Trip and smile.  Sadly, the thing I remember most about that weekend wasn't the romance.  It was the bed.  (WRRRRRRRR...)

  2. LOL - my boyfriend and I had a room once with a sleep number bed. After our initial play phase, we left the room to do touristy things... upon sleeping that night we learned that the bed was so worn out that it didn't hold air - so in the middle of the night we're doing the "WRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR" thing and pumping it back up...

  3. So those beds would make a good cover if you sneak a motorcycle into your room? :P

  4. lol me and my gf once stayed in a small B&B were the walls were paper thin and at breakfast, by the look on the other guests faces we knew that they had all heard EVERYTHING :D

  5. that reminds me of those beds that you put a quarter in and they shook. we were not allowed to use them because, "Hey that's a waste of 25 cents." When i was a kid I pictured a quarter-filled adulthood in which i could put quarters in whenever the hell the wanted. that would be the life, man.

  12. My friend and her husband just got a temperpedic bed and had to re-learn sex. She said...and I quote..."You sink into that son of a bitch so when you want to switch positions you have to dig yourself out of your pit! It's not sexy to heft yourself up like that during sex!" *side note-they are not big people* hahaha. beds can sure make "romantic" weekends memorable.

I still say no thank you to anyone with a water bed...btw...not fun!

  14. Did I tell you about this one time I was having phone sex, and started to get real loud. It was 3 am, but my parents still woke up and heard me. They thought I was hurt or something and decided to check up on me.... good thing they didn't catch me with a guy I guess...?

Haha I also suspect the "WRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR" wasn't the ONLY thing they heard ;) Either way, it's the simple things like that which give the good memories, huh? You can have hot, steamy sex just about anywhere in the world, but probably only that one hotel in SLC could give you a "WRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR" experience

  15. I have never been to Salt Lake City, but I imagine it being kind of like a beach town without the inconvenience of having an ocean close by, or surf shops, or decent bars, or scantily clad women walking by...

On second thought it doesn't sound like the beach at all is much as a sandy salty Mormon bastion of repressed desires.

But at least you crazy kids made the most of it, here's hoping the pizza delivery guy kept you nice and fed!

  16. Well now I know never to go for a sleep number bed.

Or a tempurpedic, or a waterbed. But I knew the waterbed one, seriously.

  19. Jeez, SLC is deep in Mormon territory. Good thing they didn't know what you were up to in your room.

  27. I am glad that the noise you heard was a bed from another room and not a B.O.B. in your room.
