Derp-a-doodle-doo!! |
Today is April 19, and the sun rose at 6:39. The sun will set at 8:15.
In California, we'd call that August.
August in Idaho, the sun won't set until after 10pm. This is a very strange thing for me.
When I was younger, I would read about Alaska, and the sun never really setting in the summer. In the winter, the sun would never really rise. In my mind, that was Alaska. The rest of the US had 'normal' movements of the sun.
It didn't dawn on me (get it? ha...) that I'm now living 830 miles farther north than I used to, therefore the days are going to be longer in the summer, and shorter in the winter.
I usually set my internal clock by the sun. I start winding down my day when the sun sets, especially in the summer. Now that it's going to be about 2 hours later than I'm used to, I fear for my sleep schedule.
Gorgeous, yes. But at 10:45?? |
I like that photo! Did you take that picture yourself?
ReplyDeleteI'm the same. Only now do I realize if I were to move, my internal "sun clock" would adjust all weird. You have toyed with my mind!
ReplyDeleteThat amount of sunlight would freak me out after a little while.
ReplyDeletethat is pretty awesome. i love drinking at that time with the sun still up
ReplyDeleteToo much sun. I love the night
ReplyDeleteI love summers where the day is longer.
ReplyDeleteThat explains Idaho, the Sun fried all their brains!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I have never really noticed it traveling up and down the east coast, strange.
I'm with you! I'm from CA too but now in Wisconsin. I'd be working on my computer and the kids would say "I'm hungry!" I'd reply, "The sun is still up and it's only.... omg almost 10 pm!" I'm a new fan btw!

I love it in the summer when it stays light until after 9:30. We don't eat dinner until around 8 so in the winter when it is dark by 5pm it really messes with our moods.
ReplyDeleteInteresting, id love to experience the midnight sun. But im sure it would suck badly on the body's internal clock.
ReplyDeleteI love a good sunrise...It's like nature's alarm clock! when I see it, I always know to head home to avoid the cops ;)
ReplyDeletei think i must have had ancestry from further north than i live... my body clock always seems so fucked up.
ReplyDeletei was in finland once and there was ~20 hours of daylight, but the curtains didn't meet on the window of my hotel room - you'd think they'd get that right!
I'd much rather have more sunlight than not enough. I can't get enough sunlight. Makes for a much less crabby Reckmonster.
ReplyDeleteI find that the best way to adjust to the sun is a large bottle of vodka and a sleep mask.
ReplyDeleteThey were talking over here in the UK of moving the clock so that it's always lighter in the evenings - to cut down on street lighting etc...seemed a bit of an odd idea to me....
ReplyDeleteWow, I had no idea the sun sets there after 10 in Aug. That's kinda crazy. I think I would like that in California when the weather is nice in the summer. Poor farmers, you're right.
ReplyDeleteHope the In-N-Out burger withdrawals are getting better too. :)
Nice post
I'm in southeastern WA.. so I like the long summer days. Grown up here and lived with it. You'll love it after you get used to it. :)
ReplyDeleteI like when the sun sets later. I feel a million times more productive.
ReplyDeleteThe picture is definately Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteyeah im north in vancouver so it rarely stops raining. Sunlight is just a nice surprise
ReplyDeleteThat's pretty strange. No wonder why you're not used to it.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean, man. The sun goes down at five o'clock here and rises at roughly the same time. Stupid equatorial proximity...
ReplyDeleteThe sunrise/sunset around here is 625 AM and 730 PM. I can't imagine a 10 PM sunset. I'd love to see that if I ever get to Cali some day.
