So Why Am I Grumpy Today?

Something doesn't smell right in bloggerville.

And no, it's not because I haven't showered yet this morning...

A little over a month ago, I won a prize from a gaming website.  I blogged about it, and was really stoked.  It was my first time winning anything!

But, over a month later, it still hasn't arrived.

Which is weird, because according to Tristie @ WoW:  Win the Game the prize was mailed out about 30 days ago...

My question to the peanut gallery:  Do you think I was scammed?

There have been no updates to that blog since February 25.  She's not responding to my emails.  I try to think the best about people, but this is really starting to get under my skin.

I know what you're thinking, and I'm thinking it too.  It was free, and I'm not out on any costs or anything.  Maybe I shouldn't complain?

The thing is, it's a really nice prize.  It's a Razer Carcharias gaming headset.  It's an $80 Big-O for my ears.  Since I will be working on building a super-pc soon, this accessory will be a great addition to the rig.  And now I wants it.

So if this is indeed a hoax, and I didn't win this headset, eventually I'm going to want to buy it.  And THAT will cost me a chunk of change....

Tristie, if you're reading this.... halp.  Don't give me the Charlie Brown treatment...

No!  Really!  Cmon!  Kick the Football!   ...meh.

  4. I did some minor investigation on her website.

I think it's pretty weird that she only had the blog active for the whole month of February. At first glance it looks like any didactic gamer's dream come true: a site with a great following as well as in depth gaming guides. Nothing suspicious. She DOES take a lot of vacations, so maybe that's why she's a little delayed in purchasing your head sets and also mailing them? I'm trying to find out if she's a US resident and citizen, because if she lives abroad then obviously it's unlikely you'll get your package immediately.

Worse comes to worst, I think she probably scammed people into entering a contest to boost traffic. I'm not a pc or WoW gamer seeing as how I'm confined to my xbox360, so I wouldn't know what PvP means.

  7. Hey, I made it to the finals of a huge essay contest for a haunted attraction with all kinds of horror industry judges. Cost 29.11 to enter the contest. Thousands entered. 13 of us made finals. That was back in the fall and still no winner announced and the haunted attraction opens in October. I'm thinking Kreepy Krawlys sank. I can relate. Had I won, I'd go to Hollywood and have a mold made of my face for a character who gets killed off in the haunted attraction. Damn! I hope this comes through for you. I've won over a dozen contests in blogs and never had one issue, but blogs do come and go without warning.

  9. @Rachel: Nope, nothing lost. But now I covet...

@Leila: Yeah, a one-month-only blogger worried me too, but keep in mind I've only been doing this since late January. I can't throw stones on this one... at least not too much...

@Autumn: Wow... maybe if I do a contest, I should charge and then disappear? Seems like a damn good way to make money.

Too bad I'm an honest sumbitch...

I'm still keeping my hopes up. I'm not sure why, but I'm always "Mister Brightside" when it comes to life giving me lemons.

  11. Well, you know what they say. If it's too good to be true, it probably is. It might just be a scam. :(

  15. We've all been scammed some time or another in life. Atleast you didn't drop any cash. I've found myself out a few hundred dollars from scams and people trying to make a buck..Just roll with it and move on. Definitely not the end of the world.

  16. That would suck, hope you manage to get it all sorted out

  17. I cannot Emphasize this enough. PLEASE do not buy a gaming headset.

Gaming headsets tend to be overpriced for the quality of audio and microphone you receive. I would suggest getting a pair of good headphones (the Audio Technica ATH - AD700 are absolutely amazing for gaming and cost around 90 dollars)and a cheap mic.

  19. I would feel the exact same way you do. I get suspicious of people the moment I meet them, sometimes. Try not to worry too much, because you never know what's going on over there. Hope it works out. It'd be awesome for you to get the headset.

  28. I think it takes too long time for it. It's possible that the person will never come back to her blog but I would wait a little bit longer before buying one.
thank you for your lovely comment ! x

  30. sounds like a scam on the blogger's part to get viewership, and add clicks, and then pop off the map after they got what they wanted. Personally I don't trust most blogger contests. And I would never do my own unless I was going to be honest about it. I might do something soon though, since I have some swag from NASA now.
