Last night was mostly spent at my girl's parent's house. Watching tv, having dinner, and just general hang-out stuff.
We leave there around 9:00, and I look up...
Not the actual picture of what I saw, but close enough. |
Pretty pretty stars! Thousands of them!
I'm from smoggy southern California, so I didn't get to see a lot of the twinkle twinkles in my life. This was a sight to see.
Meanwhile, let me paint you a mental picture. I'm awe-struck, looking straight up, while walking to my car.
I'm STUNNED that I didn't trip over, or run into anything.
But wow. Seriously. It's freaking gorgeous.
This August, when meteor-shower season hits, I'm not going to know what to do with myself...
Yes, I'm 30. But I seriously looked like a little child on Christmas morning... |
Oh! And before I forget, I need your help. I'm up now for round 1 of Thank, Q's Stunner Tournament. The link is HERE, and all I ask you to do is vote for the better of the two blog posts. To vote, go to the polls on the left, and pick your person. There are a few brackets going on right now, but you won't be able to miss mine.
Thanks in advance for the support!
One reason to live in a rural area right there. I'm used to sights almost like that.
ReplyDeleteI've done that! When our daughter was just born, I was 'walking and nursing'. I know, not maybe the greatest imagery. Anyway, the stars were bright and the northern lights appeared. I nearly was run over because I was so lost in space.
ReplyDeleteWild night. Nice pictures also :)
ReplyDeleteMan I miss that. Living in the city right now, but later on I think I'd like to move somewhere where I can look up and see something like that.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, I voted on the poll. Hehe
I love space so much. I write about it a lot in my stories. If I hadn't gotten rejected from this university I applied to, astronomy was going to be my major. Sadly I did get rejected, but that doesn't stop me from enjoying the small town view of the night. It's so beautiful it's brought me to tears on many occasions.
ReplyDeletethis sounds so romantic and amazing at the same time. i love to sit on the balcony in summer and watch the stars and airplanes fly by
ReplyDeletestar gazing is fun and beautiful
ReplyDeleteThat is what we do every night when the weather is nice. Sit out on the back deck and stare up at the sky. How could you resist with a view like that?!
ReplyDeleteI live somewhat on the boonies myself, and I wouldn't trade this night sky for anything. Also, I'll go ahead and support you in your contest. Who knows, maybe one day you'll reciprocate the gesture...
ReplyDeleteNow that's romantic! I love looking at the stars...just so much pollution here now that I can't spot any from my place.
ReplyDeleteOh, and I voted for you, duh!
Holy shit! I wish I could see something in the sky. When I look up all I see is a yellow orange tint to the night. No stars :(
ReplyDeleteI love watching stars at night! Just being supportive :)
ReplyDeleteWhen I moved back to AZ after living in Redondo Beach, the stars shocked me. I wanted to reach up and touch them. The sky was so clear that you could see the satellites gliding by. Then, the city grew up around me and the lights blotted it out so there were only a few stars up directly above. When I go out into the countryside now, I spend hours outside just staring in wonder. It's magic.
ReplyDeleteLiving in a rural area sometimes is awesome! Also, I voted for you in that pol, good luck!
ReplyDeleteI took earth and space in highschool and it might have been my favorite class. I love the stars
ReplyDeleteThere are too many city lights around here to get a good view of the stars. Thus why I love a good drive out to the mountains.
ReplyDeleteI love competition. I want to face off against another blog in a no-holds-barred cage match (probably not that violent).
I was happy to vote for you, though. Good luck.
Light pollution is so lame
ReplyDeleteI love expressing my democratic opinion!!!
ReplyDeleteYup.. I spent some time traveling as I love in complete urban/sky watching hell, and I had no idea the beauty of the night sky. I could literally spend every night just gazing, if given the chance of course.
ReplyDeleteStarbreeze cool stuff dude. But in the city like you said theres to much pollution in the atmosphere to really appreciate the beauty of the cosmos.
ReplyDeleteI've gotten lost in the beauty and awe of the stars, myself, so I can relate.
ReplyDeleteCan't beat a beautiful night sky... well, unless it's a starry sky shared :)
ReplyDeleteHope you have fun with the meteor shower later in the year.
Really tempted to get a telescope but living in Ireland it's a rare sight for it not to be raining :(
I live in a small town and I love to look at the stars. You have my support :D
ReplyDeleteThe stars at night are the most beautiful thing in the world.
ReplyDeleteI always love that feeling! It never gets old for me. Especially when I moved away from DC. Some of the city stuff may be missed, but the sky is always there.
ReplyDeleteI wish the sky looked just as nice where I live.
ReplyDeleteMy wife's from the middle of Ks and it's like that there. I don't like it, too many to pick out the constellations.
ReplyDeleteSeeing the stars at night is truly beautiful. One of the perks of growing up in a rural Northern California town, at least you can enjoy it now in Idaho. Glad you had a good night.
ReplyDeleteVoted!
-Dale
Thx for your comment too. :)
Good god, I couldn't even imagine seeing stars like that. We get a few constellations, and that's about it.
ReplyDeleteHenry Fonda will be very proud of you when you do (and so will Sergio Leone).
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised it took you this long to make a post about the night sky in rural areas. I assumed it'd be the first thing a city dweller would write about. Beautiful nonetheless!
@Leila: It took so long because it was cloudy and overcast for most of the winter. That, plus even on clear days, when it's 5 degrees out, you're focused on getting from point A to point B. Looking up just slows you down, and gets you even colder...
ReplyDeleteI voted! And sometimes you can see the stars here in so cal! ;)
ReplyDeleteStars are always so mesmorizing! Thanks for reminding me of something that all too often we stop to look up and appreciate.
ReplyDeleteGood luck in the blogging tournament. You have my vote. Please stop by and vote for me too. Thanks!
Yeah, I gots the stars here...hardly any light pollution, but most of the villages turn off their "security" lights after midnight.
ReplyDeleteAfter 25 years of Manhattan, I thought the normal night time sky was a kinda pollution dark orange brown with a light smudge indicating where moon was supposed to be...
what a shock....
Not a lot of star gazing in Cali, huh? Sorry to hear that. Here, in Mississippi, I can see plenty. The full moon lights up like a night light at times.
